About Chad Gilbert

Chad Gilbert was the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of New Found Glory, a founding member of the Coral Springs, Florida band, and a former vocalist of Shai Hulud. He died on September 20, 2026, at the age of 45, as confirmed in a statement from the band and his wife.

He played Gibsons almost entirely. An undated rig list shows Les Paul Customs in black, white and red with gold hardware, an ES-335, an SG and a Les Paul Double Cutaway, as well as a Fender Telecaster, and an AP report says he owned more than 20 guitars. Seymour Duncan JB and Custom pickups were announced for him in 2011. His amps were Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo heads with custom 6x12 and 4x12 cabinets, a Stiletto Ace head and 2x12 combo, and a Rect-O-Verb 1x12 combo.

When he sold gear on eBay, the lots included a red Gibson ES-335 from the 2006 album Coming Home and a black SG used on tour about 2002 to 2004, with a tuning locking system on the headstock that helped him stay in tune onstage.
