About Rex Brown
Rex Brown is the bassist of Pantera, who joined in 1982, and has also played in Down and Kill Devil Hill. His bass story runs through Spector: he met Skid Row's Snake Sabo and Rachel Bolan on tour in the early 1990s, and Bolan lent him a couple of basses that helped the band find the midrange it was missing while tracking Far Beyond Driven. After leaving the brand in 2022, he rejoined Spector's artist roster.
The Spector Euro 4 Rex Brown Signature has neck-through construction with a three-piece maple neck and empress wood wings with a flame maple top, EMG PJ-X pickups and Spector's TonePump active preamp, in a Desert Gold finish painted to imitate a desert sunset. Brown says the bass traces back to an old P-Bass.
Other instruments listed in a user-submitted database include an early Jackson bass that appeared on Pantera's first two albums, Music Man StingRays and an ESP LTD REX-600 signature bass. For live work he has moved to Kemper profiles, with his engineer profiling a classic cabinet-driven sound from an isolated Far Beyond Driven bass track, and his board includes an MXR Blowtorch.
