About Cordoba

Cordoba was founded in 1997 by Tim Miklaucic and is based in Santa Monica, California. The aim was to rescue the classical guitar from being overshadowed by steel-string acoustics and electrics, and to build a nylon-string guitar that could be used for nearly any style, not just classical or flamenco. The name comes from the Spanish city of Córdoba.

The designs follow the Spanish tradition built by Antonio de Torres Jurado, and the company's Luthier and Master collections honor five master builders: Torres, Hermann Hauser I, Miguel Rodriguez, Manuel Reyes and Domingo Esteso. Its range also includes student models in the Protégé and Iberia series, flamenco guitars, the Fusion line of electric-nylon crossovers, the Stage series, and ukuleles.

In 2014 Cordoba Music Group acquired Guild from Fender, and it also owns DeArmond pickups. Yamaha Guitar Group has since acquired Cordoba Music Group, according to trade press. Guitar Radar follows Cordoba's new models and Guild reissues.
