About Mad Professor
Mad Professor is a Finnish effects and amplifier company that started as an amplifier business in 2002. Harri Koski, who distributed the hand-built BJFE pedals of designer Björn Juhl, asked Juhl to consider designing amplifiers; Juhl was too busy with pedals, so a new company was proposed in which he would design the effects and amps. Koski and Jukka Mönkkönen formed a limited company in 2006 and added pedals because amplifiers alone did not meet their goals.
The nickname is said to have come from a shop owner who called the designer by that name when he ran an amp repair shop in the basement of a guitar store.
The Sweet Honey Overdrive is among its best-known pedals; its circuit derives from Juhl's BJFE Honey Bee Overdrive and pairs a low-gain, touch-sensitive voice with a Focus knob.
