About Neural DSP

Neural DSP is a Helsinki-based company founded in 2017 by Douglas Castro and Francisco Cresp, who both came to Finland from Chile as exchange students. Its first plug-in, Darkglass Ultra, came out in April 2018, followed by the Fortin Nameless that September, which became its first major success.

The Archetype series of amp-and-effects plug-ins, each built around a specific guitarist, gave the company its public profile; the line has been co-developed with players such as Tim Henson, Cory Wong and Plini. That profile in turn paid for the company's hardware ambitions: the Quad Cortex floor modeler, shown at NAMM in January 2020 and shipping in 2021, is built around four SHARC+ processors, and a smaller Nano Cortex followed in late 2024.

Neural DSP's model of pairing a named artist with a software rig has made it a regular presence in guitar news. Guitar Radar follows its new Archetype plug-ins, Quad Cortex updates and hardware.
