About Spector
Spector began in Brooklyn in 1976, according to the company, when Stuart Spector and Alan Charney started building instruments as members of the Brooklyn Woodworkers Co-op. Early products were the G-1 guitar and the SB-1 bass. Ned Steinberger, another co-op member, offered to design a bass, and the result was the curvy, neck-through NS-1 in 1977, followed by the two-pickup NS-2 in 1979.
In 1985 the Spector brand was sold to Kramer, which moved production and started building NS-2 basses in Korea. After Kramer went bankrupt around 1989 to 1990, Stuart Spector formed Stuart Spector Designs, relaunched the NS series in December 1992 and later won back the Spector trademark in a legal dispute.
The company is based in Saugerties, New York. Today its instruments are made in Woodstock, New York, in the Czech Republic, Korea and China, depending on the series; the Czech link grew from a consulting visit in 1987. Guitar Radar follows Spector's new bass and guitar models and artist signatures.
