PRS and John Mayer launch eight Defender-inspired Silver Sky limited editions

PRS has teamed with John Mayer and Defender for an eight-guitar Silver Sky color collection announced September 22. Four US-made Silver Sky models use heritage Defender finishes — Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow — while four SE Silver Skys take Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green.

The Core models are capped at 500 instruments per color and add matching headstocks, Defender-branded neckplates and special hard cases. The SE versions are not numerically capped, but their order window closes in mid-2027; they also introduce black pickguards and control knobs to the Silver Sky family. PRS says the collaboration grew from Mayer's long-standing interest in Defender vehicles, including his own Arles Blue example.

This is primarily a design-led limited edition rather than a new Silver Sky platform, but it is an unusually broad signature-model collaboration spanning both the US and SE ranges at once.

Why it matters

It is a sizable limited-edition drop around one of the most visible modern signature guitars, and the SE models introduce a visual configuration PRS has not previously offered on a Silver Sky.
