Welsh rock trio Cardinal Black will release their third studio album, *Second Sign of Life*, on January 29, 2027 through Thirty Tigers. The announcement arrives with “Saving Grace,” a song Tom Hollister first drafted around a decade ago and has now rebuilt with Chris Buck and Adam Roberts into the album's lead single.

The band recorded the 10-track set during nine days at Clouds Hill Studios in Hamburg in June 2026, between European dates with Alter Bridge. For the first time Cardinal Black produced and engineered an album themselves, with touring bassist and recording engineer Sam Andrews involved in the sessions. The group says it deliberately used fewer layers and focused on the expanded live lineup rather than trying to repeat the more elaborate scale of its previous record.

That earlier album, 2025's *Midnight at the Valencia*, was made at Powerplay Studios in Zurich, topped the UK's Independent Album Breakers Chart and helped the band establish a sold-out first North American headline run. The new campaign will lead into Cardinal Black's largest UK and Ireland headline tour so far, opening March 30 in Wolverhampton, followed by European dates and a planned North American leg in June.

For guitar listeners, “Saving Grace” puts Buck's phrasing inside a deliberately roomier production rather than treating the guitar as another layer in a dense studio arrangement. The self-production decision makes *Second Sign of Life* an instructive test of whether a touring band's live chemistry can carry an entire studio record without an outside producer shaping the result.
