About Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy is a Chicago blues guitarist who played on sessions for Chess Records and in Muddy Waters' band in the 1960s, backing artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Koko Taylor. He first played Guild semi-hollow guitars, then switched to Fender Stratocasters after seeing Guitar Slim play one and finding it handled weather better.

His comeback album Damn Right, I've Got the Blues, released in 1991 on Silvertone after Eric Clapton invited him to guest at Royal Albert Hall shows, earned the first of his Grammy Awards. The polka-dot Stratocaster has become his visual trademark: Guy asked Fender for a guitar to remind him of a story about a polka-dot Cadillac, Fender worked out how to stamp the dots, and it grew into a Buddy Guy Signature line. He also plays a Martin acoustic with polka dots on its rosette, bridge and fingerboard.
