About Dimebag Darrell

Dimebag Darrell, born Darrell Abbott, co-founded Pantera with his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul, and is regarded as one of the most influential heavy-metal guitarists. His best-known guitar began as a 1981 Dean ML, the "Dean From Hell", later modified with a Floyd Rose and a blue lightning-bolt paint job. In 1994 he signed with Washburn, whose Dime models were based almost entirely on the Dean ML; the Dime 333 became his main touring guitar. In 2004 he returned to Dean, which released the Razorback, a design in the spirit of the ML, and later a Dime Tribute line.

Pickups were a mix: Bill Lawrence L-500 XL pickups are the ones most often linked to his sound, and Seymour Duncan makes the Dimebucker signature pickup, co-designed with him. Sources contradict each other on which pickups were in specific guitars.

He was best known for Randall amplifiers, such as the R100ES used on Cowboys from Hell, and in late 2004 he moved to Krank, which later made the Krankenstein signature model. A Furman PQ-3 equalizer, a Dunlop Crybaby From Hell wah and the MXR Dime Distortion were also part of his sound.
