About Fredrik Thordendal
Fredrik Thordendal is a guitarist of the Swedish band Meshuggah and a co-founder of its extreme, polyrhythmic style. His main guitar on a recent tour was an eight-string Ibanez Custom Shop "Stone Man" with a 27-inch scale built on his own design, with Lundgren M8 bridge and neck pickups and a coil split. He also plays the Japanese version of his signature Ibanez M8M, tuned a half-step down. The FTM33 is another signature model, with a seven-piece maple and walnut neck with titanium rods and Lundgren M8P pickups.
The band has gone largely digital: Premier Guitar says each member uses the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx, and one older list has Line 6 heads going directly into the PA with no cabinets. In 2016 he and Mårten Hagström used the Meshuggah Signature 50-watt amplifier built by Mike Fortin of Fortin Amps, which Thordendal said covers the whole arsenal of amps used on The Violent Sleep of Reason. Fortin has also made the 33 boost, named for his signature model.
Thordendal also uses a breath controller built by Johan Haake. These lists are community-compiled and mix older and newer setups, so treat them as a snapshot.
