Fortin Amplification has unveiled the 3.33, a dual-channel evolution of its 33 signature boost pedal built with Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. Where the original 33 offered a single channel of Fortin's tight, percussive high-gain boost, the 3.33 doubles that up — two independent channels, each with its own active Bass and Treble controls, that can be switched on the fly to dial in different tones for rhythm and lead work.

Fortin has built its own acclaimed Zuul noise gate directly into the circuit, aiming for dead silence between notes even at extreme gain, and the pedal can also switch channels on a paired amp, effectively acting as a command center for a modern high-gain rig. Thordendal was involved at every stage of the pedal's design, continuing the collaboration with Mike Fortin that produced the original 33.

The 3.33 is currently on back order, with Fortin telling dealers the next batch ships in the first week of October.

Why it matters

It takes one of modern metal's most respected boost pedals and gives it the extra flexibility a lot of players wanted from the original single-channel 33, without losing what made it distinctive in the first place.
