About Godflesh
Godflesh is an English industrial metal band from Birmingham, formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick (guitar, vocals and programming) and G. C. Green (bass). It split in 2002 and reformed around 2010. The debut EP is considered one of the first industrial metal releases, and the band's sound combined programmed drum beats, heavy metal guitar and an unusual emphasis on bass.
Broadrick took control of his musical direction after leaving Napalm Death, and the band's guitar setup stayed consistent: a Japanese Stratocaster tuned down and an old Marshall JCM800, with drums programmed on an Alesis HR-16, stacking multiple kicks.
Broadrick has announced that Godflesh will end as a project, since the effects of a recent hernia surgery make it unsafe for him to scream onstage again; the final album, Decay, was scheduled for release in September 2026. Guitar Radar follows the band's final releases and Broadrick's gear.
