About Hermanos Gutiérrez
Hermanos Gutiérrez are Ecuadorian-Swiss brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, who formed the duo in Zürich in 2015. Alejandro plays guitar and lap steel and Estevan plays guitar and percussion. They keep their setups deliberately small, and Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound studio supplied some of the key instruments after the duo signed to his label following a 20-minute phone call.
Alejandro travels with a 1963 Silvertone 1446 that is stock apart from a refret and a custom snake-like Bigsby arm, both done by Auerbach's tech Dan Johnson. He plays fingerstyle with Pyramid Gold Heavy strings (.013 to .052) and uses a 1940s Rickenbacker Electro NS lap steel on songs like Tres Hermanos. Estevan used Auerbach's 1958 Gretsch 6120 "Rudy" while recording El Bueno y el Malo in 2022, and tours with a Gretsch G6120T-59 Vintage Select Chet Atkins hollowbody.
Premier Guitar's rundown lists Fender Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb amps, a vintage Magnatone at Easy Eye Sound, and an MXR Dyna Comp, Malekko Omicron Vibrato and Strymon El Capistan. Auerbach also produced the follow-up Sonido Cósmico in 2024.
