About Lee Sklar
Leland "Lee" Sklar is a session bassist known for his work with James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Phil Collins, Toto and Carole King, and a member of The Immediate Family. His signature bass is built by Dingwall of Saskatoon, Canada, after he said he had struggled to find a five-string he liked until he met Sheldon Dingwall; he credits the B string with the best low end he has heard because of the extra string length.
The Dingwall Lee Sklar Signature has 24 mandolin frets on a Novax fanned-fret system, Dingwall Super Fatty II pickups and a Glockenklang three-band preamp, with a master volume, a quad-tone pickup selector and an active/passive toggle. One retailer lists an ash or alder body, a five-piece maple neck and a wenge fretboard, with a Hipshot Xtender key on the B string on some versions. Sklar's own bass is a custom gold-finish model, which he auctioned in 2021 to benefit the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
He also has a separate signature with Warwick, the Sklar Bass I, a four-string hollowbody based on the Star Bass with a built-in arm support. Guitar Radar follows his signature basses and news.
