Fender turns Lee Sklar's heavily modified studio workhorse into a production Precision Bass

The $3,499 signature model combines dual active EMG P pickups, mandolin frets, a Jazz Bass-profile neck, Hipshot extender and Badass II bridge.

Fender has recreated the Precision Bass that Lee Sklar shaped over decades of session work. The new signature model uses an alder body with a worn-in satin nitro finish, a maple neck carved to a 1962 Jazz Bass C profile and a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard fitted with unusually small mandolin frets.

Its hardware follows Sklar's working instrument rather than a stock vintage template: two active EMG Lee Sklar P pickups, a Badass II bridge, a Hipshot BT3 Bass Xtender and a custom brass string retainer. Fender lists the bass at $3,499 and made it available with the September 15 announcement.
