About Phil Collen

Phil Collen is the guitarist of Def Leppard, and his equipment is mainly Jackson. His Jackson X-Stroyer is based on his old Ibanez Destroyer with the body contours inverted, with DiMarzio Super 3 pickups and a Jackson Sustainer. Another favorite is "Felix", a late-1970s Japanese Stratocaster given to him by his mother, which was used on almost the whole of Hysteria. The Jackson Pro Phil Collen PC1 has a mahogany body, a caramelized maple bolt-on neck and a Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo, and the PC-1 "London 57" was a stock PC-1 made for his 50th birthday.

His amplifiers have moved from tubes to digital. Guitar World reports that John Petrucci persuaded Collen to go digital after the 2018 G3 tour, where Petrucci's touring rig was based on a Fractal Axe-Fx. Earlier rigs included Marshall cabinets, a Line 6 Vetta, a Fender Cyber Twin and EVH 5150III cabinets, and Collen has said he used Native Instruments' Guitar Rig 5 to record at least nine songs on one album.

Gear lists for him span different years, so treat specific rigs as snapshots. Guitar Radar follows Collen's signature Jackson models and digital rig news.
