About Power Trip
Power Trip is a Dallas band formed in 2008 whose sound sits between hardcore punk and thrash metal. The lineup was singer Riley Gale, lead guitarist Blake Ibanez, rhythm guitarist Nick Stewart, bassist Chris Whetzel and drummer Chris Ulsh. Gale died in August 2020, and the band has since said it wants to continue, and a first comeback concert has been announced.
Blake Ibanez's main guitar is a USA-made Jackson RR1 with a Floyd Rose bridge, whose original humbuckers were replaced with Lace Drop and Gain pickups. He plays it through a Marshall JCM800 2203 head, a single-channel amp with only a preamp control, master volume and simple EQ. Nick Stewart is often seen with a Gibson Explorer in an aged natural finish, and a black Explorer that was damaged in a car accident; his Explorers also carry Lace Drop and Gain humbuckers, made for high-gain music and drop tunings.
