About Robin Trower

Robin Trower is the British guitarist of Procol Harum and a long solo career, built on the Fender Stratocaster, Marshall amplification and the Univox Uni-Vibe. After about 1970 he moved from Les Pauls to Stratocasters, trying Martin Barre's Strat and reportedly exclaiming "This is it" after a couple of minutes; he used it exclusively for slide. His Fender Custom Shop signature Stratocaster has a Custom '54 pickup at the neck, a Custom '60s in the middle and a Texas Special at the bridge, a custom C-shaped maple neck, a large headstock and 21 jumbo frets. He is reported to tune down a whole step for live shows and to use heavier strings on the top two.

He has relied mostly on Marshall amplifiers, notably the JTM45 and 100-watt Super Lead. For 2009 and 2011 US tours he used two Marshall Vintage Modern 2466 heads, and in 2018 two 1987X 50-watt Plexi reissues. Fulltone makes his pedals, including the Deja Vibe, the Clyde Wah and a signature Fulltone Robin Trower Overdrive from late 2008.

The Uni-Vibe is central to the sound of songs like Bridge of Sighs and Daydream, and Trower has said it is simply a Univox Uni-Vibe that does it. Lists differ by tour, so treat any setup as a snapshot.
