Robin Trower has released Shine, a 10-track album out September 25 through Provogue/Artone Label Group. The record runs a lean 39 minutes across songs including "The Missing Piece," the title track, "Love By Any Other Name" and "Faith."

Trower's writing on Shine leans into direct, urgent songcraft rather than extended blues-rock jamming, with his guitar work still built around the same vocal-like phrasing and heavy vibrato that's defined his sound since the 1970s. The album's own framing describes songs that meet the modern world head-on rather than retreat from it.

At an age when many of his peers have stopped recording new material entirely, Trower continues to release albums at a steady pace, and Shine arrives as another entry in a discography now spanning more than five decades.

Why it matters

A guitarist closing in on his eighth decade is still writing and recording genuinely new material, not simply touring a legacy catalog — and Shine's guitar tone remains instantly recognizable as his own.
