About Saxon
Saxon is a British heavy metal band from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that has been going since 1976, when it was originally called Son of a Bitch. Founding guitarist Paul Quinn has been the band's riff writer from the start, first alongside Graham Oliver and then Doug Scarratt, who joined in 1995 after Oliver's departure, with Unleash the Beast the first studio album to feature him. The band's 21st album was Battering Ram.
Quinn stepped back from touring in 2023 but kept recording with the band. His gear is plainly stated: Saxon plays through Marshall JVM heads, often with a second head alongside, and he loves his Gibson Les Pauls. Early on he bought a Fender Jazzmaster and then an SG Junior, and he says he still loves Strats and Les Pauls. Vintage Guitar notes his playing has roots in British blues.
I found no verified, detailed gear history for Scarratt. Guitar Radar follows the band's guitar news and releases.
