British heavy metal veterans Saxon have announced their 25th studio album, Gods Of Thunder, due January 22, 2027 through Silver Lining Music, and released the title track as the first single on September 2.
Frontman Biff Byford produced the record himself, with mixing by Andy Sneap. He describes the title track as "a mighty tale of Celtic mythology," and the wider ten-track album draws on history, fantasy, horror and pagan myth alongside more grounded subjects: track titles include "The Bloody Tower (The Ballad Of Anne Boleyn)," "Medusa" and "Remember The Alamo."
The current lineup pairs longtime guitarist Doug Scarratt with Diamond Head's Brian Tatler, who has held down the second guitar chair full-time since 2023 after original member Paul Quinn stepped back from touring, alongside drummer Nigel Glockler and bassist Tim "Nibbs" Carter. Byford still calls the record a genuine group effort: "We had great fun making this album."

Why it matters
A genuine new record from one of the NWOBHM's defining twin-guitar bands, with a lineup change (Diamond Head's Brian Tatler alongside Doug Scarratt) worth noting for guitar players following the band.
