Stephen Egerton

Stephen Egerton is the guitarist of the Descendents and ALL, known for a minimalist rig. His main instrument is an Ernie Ball Music Man signature StingRay with no knobs or switches: he removed the electronics because he hit the strings hard and kept damaging the controls, and wired the pickup straight to the jack since the volume knob and selector kept rusting. It has an okoume body, a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium-high frets and a custom-wound Music Man humbucker in charcoal frost.

Before the StingRay he played a Music Man Axis for nearly two decades, and his first guitar after joining the Descendents was a Kramer Baretta, chosen because it was the easiest to play of the models he tried. For FLAG shows he has used an Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi guitar.

A Carvin cabinet he got when he joined the Descendents in 1986 has been in his setup for the ALL records and many shows since. He uses no effects or even volume knobs with the Descendents or FLAG; elsewhere he has mentioned a few reissue Ampeg pedals, a Danelectro spring reverb and an MXR EP-1, and he plays Ernie Ball Power Slinkys.
