About BluGuitar
BluGuitar is a German amplifier company started in 2014 by the guitarist Thomas Blug, who had spent 27 years as a product engineer at Hughes & Kettner before founding his own company. The aim was innovative, good-sounding and user-friendly products suited to the stage.
Its first product was the Amp1, a four-channel, fully analog 100-watt amp whose power stage is a Class D design built around what BluGuitar calls a proprietary nanotube, which it says makes the amp respond to touch like a tube amp; one source says it was designed with a Russian engineer to meet Blug's touring needs. The Amp1 won awards and was followed by the Mercury and Iridium editions, and Blug has been working on the AmpX, which debuted in 2023 according to one source.
A 2024 podcast clip described one of the big British amp companies copying the Amp1, but I only saw the description, so the details are unconfirmed. Guitar Radar follows new BluGuitar amps and editions.
