About EBS
EBS is a Swedish bass-gear company founded in 1988 in the Stockholm area by Bo Engberg and Mats Kristoffersson, with the goal of building high-end bass equipment. The name originally stood for Efekt Bass System, and the first product was the rack-mounted EBS-1 preamp; early units went to three excellent bass players, which helped build its reputation.
Its first effects pedal was the Octabass, introduced in 1992 or 1993 depending on the source, which EBS says set a new standard for bass octave effects. The Multicomp followed in 1998; its first gray-box version had three compression settings (normal, a tube-style simulation and a multiband mode), and it has been used well beyond bass. Later versions include the Multicomp SE in the Black Label Studio Edition range.
EBS today makes tube and transistor bass amps, cabinets, combos, pedals and flat patch cables, and its pedals are now assembled in Asia with quality control in Sweden. Endorsers have included Billy Sheehan, Tal Wilkenfeld, Marcus Miller and Tony Levin.
