About Electro-Harmonix
Electro-Harmonix was founded in New York in 1968 by Mike Matthews, a former IBM salesman. Its first product, the LPB-1 boost, pushed guitar amplifiers harder, and the company grew by producing pedals that were affordable and unusual. Matthews had earlier produced the Foxey Lady fuzz for Guild in 1967.
Its most famous pedal is the Big Muff Pi, designed in 1969 by Matthews with Bob Myer. The Big Muff delivers a thick, sustaining fuzz and has been in production, through EHX and Sovtek, from 1969 to the present. Other early classics include the Small Stone phaser and the Memory Man delay.
Matthews later set up New Sensor Corporation and imported Russian-made Sovtek products, including updated versions of the Big Muff and Small Stone. The company still designs and builds products in New York, and its range has expanded to modern digital effects, tubes and compact synth pedals. Guitar Radar follows new EHX pedals, reissues and limited editions.
