About Fortin
Fortin Amplification was started in 2008 by Mike Fortin, an electronics engineering graduate who built his reputation designing high-gain amplifiers. In 2011 he became chief engineer at Randall Amplifiers, where he designed a new generation of tube amps, including the 667 and the Thrasher, and a multi-channel Kirk Hammett signature head; his time there seems to have ended around 2016.
Under his own name Fortin is best known for the ZUUL noise gate pedal, which has become a standard for heavy and high-gain players. The brand has also worked with the Swedish band Meshuggah on a signature amplifier and preamp pedal, and with their guitarist Fredrik Thordendal on the 33 boost. Other pedals include the NATAS and the Blade, and amplifier heads include the Cali, Evil Pumpkin and Sigil.
Fortin states its gear is engineered and built in the USA. Neural DSP's Fortin Nameless plug-in, released in 2018, was that company's first major success. Guitar Radar follows new Fortin amps and pedals.
