About LR Baggs
L.R. Baggs is an acoustic-guitar pickup and electronics maker founded by Lloyd Baggs, a former cellist who made his first guitar while working as a master printer and then built guitars in Los Angeles for musicians such as Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, Janis Ian and Graham Nash. His interest in pickups began when Cooder wanted to amplify an acoustic guitar Baggs had built, which led to the LB6, a retrofit pickup designed not to damage the instrument.
Baggs has said the company's goal is to amplify the acoustic guitar as faithfully as possible. Its Para Acoustic DI is described as a groundbreaking product, and the Anthem system, which pairs a Tru-Mic internal microphone with an undersaddle pickup through a crossover preamp, remains popular with performing guitarists. The company made a short film about Richard Hoover and the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
The company changed its name to Baggs in September 2026 for its 50th anniversary, and Guitar Radar covers current news on its Baggs page, including the HiFi DNA system developed with Gibson.
