Cable Free Guitar has introduced DeadOn, a rechargeable clip-on tuner for guitar, bass, violin and ukulele, with a chromatic mode for other instruments. CFG rates its accuracy at plus or minus 0.5 cent and uses a color TFT display designed to remain legible from multiple angles. The unit supports a stated A0-to-C8 range and lets players calibrate the reference pitch from 410Hz to 460Hz rather than locking every setup to A=440Hz.
The tuner includes dedicated guitar, bass, violin and ukulele modes alongside chromatic operation. Its lithium-polymer battery is charged over USB-C, with more than three hours of quoted use from a charge completed in under 90 minutes. An eight-minute auto-off function is intended to preserve the battery, while the hinged clip folds the display down for storage. CFG lists the weight at 18 grams, keeping the device small enough to remain on a headstock or fit into an accessory pocket.
DeadOn enters a crowded category, but the combination of rechargeable power, a broad calibration range and half-cent claimed resolution addresses practical weaknesses of inexpensive clip tuners. The official product page shows the exact production unit rather than a concept render and lists it as available for purchase. That makes the launch relevant as a compact everyday tool rather than a speculative accessory announcement.
Why it matters
A rechargeable, half-cent clip tuner with wide calibration and multiple instrument modes offers a practical upgrade over disposable-battery tuners without moving into pedalboard territory.
