Jeff Loomis has partnered with Von Frankenstein Monster Gear on two new signature electric-guitar string sets: the six-string Raven VI and seven-string Raven VII. The company lists both as in stock, with the Raven VI priced at $7.99 and the Raven VII at $9.99. The launch extends Loomis’s signature range with gauges aimed at the technical metal playing associated with his work in Nevermore, Conquering Dystopia and his solo catalogue.
Raven VI uses .009, .012, .016, .026, .036 and .048 gauges. Raven VII adds a .062 low string to that sequence. Loomis says the seven-string balance is intended for guitars tuned down a half step, with enough resistance for a strapped-on live instrument while remaining comfortable for deep bends and vibrato. Both sets use nickel-plated steel wrap over treated hex-steel cores, and each string is individually packaged to limit corrosion before installation.
Von Frankenstein says the strings are built one at a time on a US workbench from domestically sourced materials rather than on a high-volume line. The company positions that process around tension consistency, note separation and durability under high-gain playing. Premier Guitar’s launch report confirms the two prices and the complete gauge sets, giving the announcement an independent specialist source alongside the manufacturer’s product pages.
The practical choice is clear: Raven VI is a light-top, heavier-bottom six-string set, while Raven VII carries the same upper six gauges and adds a substantial .062 for extended-range rhythm work. Players who use Loomis-style half-step-down setups get a published reference point instead of having to assemble a custom set, while standard-tuning players should assess whether the heavier bass side suits their preferred feel.
Why it matters
A precisely documented artist set gives six- and seven-string players an affordable off-the-shelf route to Loomis’s preferred half-step-down tension balance.
