Keeley Electronics has released the Tube Drive Twin Triode, a two-in-one overdrive that puts an actual Russian 12AX7 tube in the signal path rather than emulating one. That side runs at high voltage for the compression and touch response players associate with real valves. The second side is a Super Phat Mod circuit, Keeley's take on a thick, amp-like low-gain drive.
Each channel has its own level, tone and gain. The two can run on their own, stack into higher-gain territory, or swap order on the fly via a footswitch, and there is a choice of true bypass or Keeley's buffered silent switching. A cutout in the enclosure shows the tube glowing at the centre of the pedal.
It is made in Oklahoma City with a street price of $399.
Why it matters
Most 'tube' drive pedals use the word loosely; a design with a real high-voltage valve stage alongside a proven Keeley circuit is a more interesting proposition for players chasing genuine valve feel on a board.
