Martin marks Gram Parsons’ 80th birthday with an 80-piece 00-21 tribute

The 12-fret acoustic recreates the look and feel of Parsons’ road-worn 1963 Martin with old-growth spruce, VTS bracing and a signature neck profile.

Martin has introduced the 00-21 Gram Parsons, a limited-edition 12-fret acoustic based on the late songwriter’s original 1963 Martin. The launch arrived on November 5, what would have been Parsons’ 80th birthday, and in the year of his 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Production is capped at 80 numbered instruments, tying the run directly to the anniversary rather than treating the artist connection as a cosmetic signature exercise.

The guitar pairs East Indian rosewood back and sides with an old-growth Sitka spruce top. Martin used its Vintage Tone System on the top and matched visible wear and aging toner to Parsons’ surviving instrument. Under the top is Golden Era scalloped X-bracing made from Adirondack spruce, also treated with VTS. The compact 00 body joins the neck at the 12th fret, with a 24.9-inch scale, a wide 1 7/8-inch nut and a slotted headstock.

Martin also developed a model-specific mahogany neck profile from the 1963 guitar. An ebony bridge, rosewood fingerboard and herringbone-style appointments keep the specification close to the period, while every example carries a numbered label with Parsons’ reproduced signature. The instrument ships with a hardshell case and no onboard electronics, keeping the focus on the acoustic design.

Parsons’ “Cosmic American Music” helped collapse the old border between country and rock, and the worn 00-21 was part of that visual and musical identity. This edition is notable because Martin has reproduced unusual physical traits—the neck shape, 12-fret geometry and visible top wear—rather than simply adding an artist badge to a current production model.

Why it matters

It is a tightly limited, unusually specific recreation of a historically identifiable guitar, released on a meaningful anniversary for one of country-rock’s foundational figures.
