Seymour Duncan and Joe Bonamassa have released the Joe Bonamassa ‘Pawn Shop Special’ 1961 P90 Set, modeled directly on the pickups in a 1961 Gibson SG Special that Bonamassa found in a pawn shop while touring in 2010. Seymour Duncan describes it as the Custom Shop’s first P-90 collaboration with him.
The set uses Alnico 4 magnets, with quoted DC resistances of 7.8k for the neck and 8.4k for the bridge. The company also reproduced period details including the dimpled P-90 bottom plate and uses wax potting for live reliability.
The first 610 sets add collector extras tied to Bonamassa’s inventory tag for the original guitar, which he cataloged as item number 001. More importantly for players, this is a documented attempt to clone a specific vintage P-90 pair rather than another generic signature pickup.

Why it matters
A precisely referenced vintage pickup recreation gives P-90 players a concrete new option and ties a signature product to a specific, documented instrument in Bonamassa’s collection.
