Ben Poole has released Post-Midnight Behaviour, out September 25 via Gypsy Soul Records — his first studio album of new material since 2018's Anytime You Need Me. The record was produced by Wayne Proctor, Oli Brown and Poole himself, and recorded across the House of Tone Mix Suite and Superfly Studios in Nottinghamshire.

Where Poole's earlier records stayed close to straightforward blues-rock, Post-Midnight Behaviour reaches further into soul, funk, country and alternative-rock textures while keeping his guitar playing at the center. Lead single "Runaway Souls," featuring Elles Bailey, arrived alongside an official music video and sets the tone for a record built more around songwriting and mood than genre-first blues jamming.

Early reviews have singled out the album's late-night, reflective feel and Poole's guitar work specifically — Guitarist Magazine noted "subtle traces of John Mayer's artistry" running through it, a comparison that points to how far the record moves beyond his earlier, more traditional blues releases.

Why it matters

A respected UK blues-rock guitarist is deliberately widening his sound on his first new album in years, rather than repeating the same genre formula that built his reputation.
