Dream Theater have confirmed that work is under way on their 17th studio album. The band shared a new photo of James LaBrie, John Petrucci, John Myung, Jordan Rudess and Mike Portnoy together at Ytse Jam Studios with the message that “DT17” had begun.
The project follows Parasomnia, released in February 2025, and arrives after the band completed its extended touring cycle. It will be Dream Theater's second studio album since Portnoy returned to the lineup in 2023; no title or release date has been announced.

Why it matters
The session marks Dream Theater's next full creative chapter with Mike Portnoy back in the band, moving the reunion beyond its first comeback album and tour cycle.
