Guitarist and composer Eric Nelson Gershenow released Unrequited Admiration Society through Modern Icon Recordings on September 4. The record features Stephen Wise on saxophone and was co-produced by Adrian Harpham, with the label describing an approach built around guitar-rich harmonies, syncopated rhythms and narrative-minded composition.
It is exactly the kind of smaller jazz-guitar release that can disappear beneath mainstream rock and gear headlines. The album gives Guitar Radar a useful independent-jazz find without relying on celebrity scale as the measure of relevance.
Why it matters
A global guitar radar should catch strong independent jazz releases as well as major-label rock records. Gershenow's album broadens the week's musical coverage with a guitar-centered release from outside the usual headline cycle.
