Spanish classical guitarist Hugo Moltó released Sonatinas on JSM Records on September 3. The 45-minute album is built around sonata writing for guitar by Anton Diabelli, Federico Moreno Torroba and Leo Brouwer, deliberately placing three composers from different periods and aesthetic worlds beside one another.
The programme moves from Diabelli’s Classical language through Torroba’s Spanish idiom to Brouwer’s modern vocabulary. Rather than treating the pieces as unrelated repertoire, the release frames them as three different answers to the same formal idea: what a sonata can become in the hands of a guitarist and composer from a particular era.
JSM’s release information lists Sonatinas as available both on CD and through major digital platforms. For players interested in classical-guitar repertoire, the album offers a useful side-by-side view of how form, harmony and instrumental language evolved while the guitar remained at the center.
