Jesse Cook sets ‘past the breakwater’ for September 18 and leans into a quieter jazz side

Jesse Cook has detailed ‘past the breakwater’, a new 10-track album arriving September 18 through Coach House Music, distributed by Believe. The September 12 announcement places the Spanish-guitar-led record alongside an extensive Forever Live tour that begins the day after release and continues into 2027.

Cook describes the album as a move toward more space and a stronger connection with the jazz records he returns to for late-night listening. Some tracks reduce the arrangement to Spanish guitar and double bass, while longtime collaborators Marito Marques, Will Lamoureux and Ross MacIntyre appear across the record, with cellist Jill Sauerteig also featured.

Much of the album was recorded by Cook in a remote Canadian Shield cabin accessible by boat. He composed, arranged, produced, recorded and mixed the project himself, making the stripped-back direction as much a production choice as a stylistic one.
