Temperance release Arcani, a 13-song tarot sequence built around three voices and metal guitar

The Italian band’s eighth album gives each track a Major Arcana role, with Marco Pastorino’s guitars sharing the foreground with layered vocals and symphonic arrangements.

Temperance have released Arcani, a 13-track album structured around cards from the Major Arcana. “The Fool” opens the sequence without a subtitle, followed by pieces built around The Magician, Death, The Tower, The Devil and other cards before “The World” closes it. Napalm Records issued the album on October 16, and the complete digital edition is available in 24-bit/44.1kHz as well as physical formats.

The current lineup places guitarist and producer Marco Pastorino alongside vocalists Kristin Starkey and Michele Guaitoli, bassist and vocalist Luca Negro, and drummer Marco Sacchetto. That three-voice arrangement is central to the record’s design: guitar solos and heavy riffs do not carry every melodic function, but instead move through symphonic layers, piano and alternating vocal registers. Pastorino produced the album, while Simone Mularoni recorded, mixed and mastered it at Domination Studio.

Bandcamp confirms the final running order and credits, including Thomas Ewerhard’s cover art. The official band site also connects individual songs to lived experiences: “Death: Right Before We Die” grew from a restaurant fire the members encountered in Tallinn, with its main melody written by Pastorino that same day. The record’s tarot device therefore works as an organizing frame rather than a single continuous plot.

An independent preview from GuitarGangsters highlights how “The Fool” functions as the entry point and how the guitars must share space with multiple lead voices. That is the practical listening hook for guitarists: Arcani uses metal guitar as one strand in a dense ensemble arrangement, shifting between riff weight, solo punctuation and support for vocal counterpoint rather than treating orchestration as background decoration.

Why it matters

Arcani offers a clear case study in arranging modern metal guitar around three lead voices and symphonic layers without reducing the instrument to texture alone.
