Tony Iommi announced his first solo album in two decades, From the Dark, on July 29 during a special streaming event in Birmingham, England the city where Black Sabbath formed. The album arrives October 23 and pairs Iommi with vocalist Jorn Lande, known for his work in Masterplan, Allen-Lande and with Yngwie Malmsteen, who co-wrote all eight new songs on the record.
Drummer Karl Brazil, who has recorded with Robbie Williams and James Blunt, and bassist Becky Baldwin, a recent addition to Mercyful Fate, round out the band, with longtime Iommi collaborator Mike Exeter sharing production duties. Alongside the eight new tracks, the album folds in two previously released songs, 2022's Scent of Dark and 2024's Deified, bringing the total to ten.
The first single, World Alone, is out now with a music video. Iommi called the record straightforward rather than a statement piece: We're not trying to prove anything - it's a great album, it rocks!
Why it matters
It's the first new solo material from one of metal's most influential guitarists in 20 years, with a genuinely new vocal collaborator rather than a nostalgia act.
