Former Every Time I Die guitarist Andy Williams has died at 48. Guitar World reports that Williams collapsed during a wrestling event in Pennsylvania on September 5 and later died in hospital. Williams had spent more than two decades shaping Every Time I Die’s rhythm-guitar attack, appearing on all nine of the band’s albums before the group ended in 2022.

Outside music he built a second career in professional wrestling as The Butcher, while continuing to make heavy music after Every Time I Die with Atomic Rule. His death closes an unusually cross-disciplinary career, but for guitar players his most lasting footprint remains the muscular, classic-rock-informed riff language he brought to one of metalcore’s most influential bands.

Why it matters

Williams helped define the guitar vocabulary of a highly influential metalcore band while maintaining a rare parallel career in professional wrestling.
