The guitarist behind YouTube's first viral guitar video re-recorded it, 20 years later

In 2005, a bedroom recording of a Korean guitarist known online as funtwo playing a shredded arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon became one of the first guitar videos to go properly viral, launching what would become an entire genre of covers-for-the-camera. Twenty years later, funtwo — real name Lim Jeong-hyun — re-recorded it for a Neural DSP promotion tied to the plugin company's Black Friday sale.

He used the same ESP Alfee Custom SEC-280TC guitar as the original, but swapped his old Zoom multi-effects unit for Neural DSP's Archetype: John Petrucci plugin; his tone preset from the session is available as a free download. "It's been 20 years, and I'm so glad I got to play it again," funtwo said of returning to the piece that helped "carve the online guitar space into a breeding ground for bedroom shredders." He's since performed the song on stage alongside Joe Satriani.
