About Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix is the guitarist most associated with the Fender Stratocaster played through loud Marshall amplification. He played a right-handed Strat restrung for left-handed use, upside down, and relied on his white 1968 Stratocaster at Woodstock in 1969, running a pair of Marshall JTM 100 Super Lead heads into 4x12 cabinets.

A small set of effects defined his sound: the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (heard on Foxy Lady), the Octavia designed by Roger Mayer (Purple Haze), a Vox wah (Voodoo Child) and a Uni-Vibe (Machine Gun), all running between guitar and amp with no buffers. In 1969 he also ordered a left-handed Gibson Flying V, which became tied to the Band of Gypsys era and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, and Gibson later made Custom Shop recreations of it.
