Newly surfaced Woodstock footage shows Jimi Hendrix's set filmed from the stage

A new film assembled around long-stored footage of Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock closing set premiered via the official Jimi Hendrix YouTube channel on 18 August, timed to the festival's anniversary. Titled Live at Woodstock - A Second Look, it draws on half-inch black-and-white videotape shot by Albert Goodman, then a 22-year-old drama student, who talked his way onto the stage and set up a camera roughly 15 feet from where Hendrix played.

Hendrix closed Woodstock on the morning of 18 August 1969 in Bethel, New York, fronting the short-lived Gypsy Sun and Rainbows. Goodman's tape captures parts of that performance from an angle the well-known festival documentary never had, including Purple Haze, Voodoo Child, Message to Love, Hear My Train a Comin' and the improvised Star-Spangled Banner. He held onto the recording for decades before passing it to Hendrix's family.

The presentation streamed free online, with the full video later posted to the Hendrix channel.
