About Slash
Slash is the lead guitarist of Guns N' Roses and, with Velvet Revolver and his own solo band, one of the defining hard-rock players since the late 1980s. His sound is built on a Gibson Les Paul through a Marshall, but the details are less standard than the legend suggests.
The main guitar on Appetite for Destruction was not a stock Gibson. It was a replica of a 1959 Les Paul Standard built by the Los Angeles luthier Kris Derrig, at a time when Gibson did not offer a '59 reissue. His guitar tech has said the current touring guitars are Gibson-made copies of those Appetite Les Pauls, with the original kept safely put away. Sources disagree on exactly which Marshall head he used on the record, but all agree it was a modified, rented Marshall rather than a stock amp.
His gear has gone on to shape two signature products. Gibson released its Slash Appetite Les Paul in 2010, and the Marshall JCM 2555 Slash Signature head, in use on his tours since 1996, was the first Marshall amp to carry an artist signature series.
