Axion update adds isolated VST plugins, seven effects and a desktop app
Severed’s forthcoming guitar modeler now runs uploaded plugins in isolation and adds new circuit-modeled effects as the self-funded hardware moves toward Q4 shipping.

Severed has posted a substantial September 9 development update for Axion, its forthcoming stage-focused guitar modeler and multi-effects system. The latest build lets users add plugins by dragging them into the device from a Mac or PC, with each plugin running in isolation so a crash does not take down the rest of the signal chain.
The update also adds seven devices, including a Keeley-style compressor model, limiter, chorus, auto-swell, overdrive, fuzz and tape delay. Severed says its pedal models are now circuit-accurate, while a newly released desktop app handles backup, restore, export and live signal-path monitoring. MIDI/control-surface mapping and parallel path splitting and merging are next on the roadmap.
Axion is built around NAM A2-Full, LV2 and VST support and is scheduled to ship in Q4 2026. Severed says it is self-funded and is taking waitlist reservations without upfront payment; US pricing starts at $1,799, with a time-limited $1,699 offer planned for waitlisted customers while retail packaging is completed.
Why it matters
Axion is one of the more unusual independent attempts to turn an open plugin/NAM environment into dependable stage hardware. Plugin isolation and desktop management address practical failure and workflow problems that matter far more live than another list of amp models.
