Yamaha adds high-end FG7 and FS7 acoustics, with X versions for stage use

Yamaha announced four new high-end acoustic models on September 18: the FG7 and FS7, plus electro-acoustic FG7 X and FS7 X versions. The company says sales begin October 3, continuing a guitar line whose modern history stretches back to the FG180 and FG150 introduced in 1966.
The launch covers both larger FG and compact FS body formats, with multiple wood/configuration variants shown in Yamaha’s announcement. The X models add stage-ready electronics while keeping the same premium acoustic focus.
For players who associate Yamaha’s FG/FS family mainly with workhorse instruments, the 7-series positioning is the interesting part: this is a deliberate move further into the high-end singer-songwriter acoustic market rather than another entry-level refresh.
Why it matters
Yamaha’s FG/FS designs are among the most established mass-market acoustic families. A new high-end tier is meaningful both for working acoustic players and for the brand’s competitive position against premium US-built flat-tops.
