Sterling Ball has revived Biff Baby's Allstars for a self-titled covers record featuring John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonamassa, Albert Lee and Blues Saraceno. Ball, drummer John Ferraro and keyboardist Jim Cox form the core group, with the guests rotating through the sessions.
The set reworks songs including Golden Earring's Radar Love and an Allman Brothers medley of Whipping Post and One Way Out. The project extends an informal supergroup history that previously included Eddie Van Halen while turning it into a formal album release.
Why it matters
The record brings several distinct virtuoso traditions into a single ensemble project instead of another isolated guest solo, and revives a little-documented part of Sterling Ball's musical history.
