Orianthi's Band of Gypsys-style trio The Power of 3 announces its debut album
The self-titled record, produced by Eddie Kramer and cut to analog tape, lands December 11, led by two new singles.

Orianthi's power trio The Power of 3 announced its self-titled debut album on August 26, with a two-song single, "War in the Streets" and "Treat Me Like a Lady," out now. The album follows on December 11 through She2Music.
The band pairs Orianthi with drummer Cindy Blackman Santana and bassist Rhonda Smith, who currently plays in the Jimmy Kimmel Live house band and has long history with Prince and Jeff Beck. Eddie Kramer, the engineer behind Hendrix's records, produced it and tracked everything to analog tape, and Carlos Santana guests on the album. The group grew out of a nudge from Raiders owner Mark Davis, who wanted Orianthi to build something in the mold of Hendrix's Band of Gypsys.
"War in the Streets" rides a churning rock groove and a long Orianthi solo; the second track leans on Smith's Motown-style bass. Orianthi described cutting a 25-minute jam that Kramer then had to mix, saying "he was sweating afterward."
Why it matters
Orianthi has spent much of her career backing other stars, from Michael Jackson to Alice Cooper, so a raw, guitar-forward trio record with Kramer at the desk is the most attention her own playing has had in a while.
