About Eric Gales

Eric Gales is a blues-rock guitarist from Memphis who plays a right-handed guitar flipped over, strung in the opposite order from a standard left-handed setup. He is naturally right-handed and learned to play this way from his older brothers, who played left-handed and upside down, and his brother Eugene taught him.

His longtime guitars come from Magneto, which has collaborated with him on signature models for over a decade; the Sonnet Raw Dawg II has an alder body, a maple neck and fingerboard and Lollar S-style pickups, and the newer RawDawg III uses Magneto Metro-Poles EG1 pickups. Backup guitars have included a Xotic XS-1 with Fishman Fluence pickups and a St. Blues Blindsider, and he has also been seen with a Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster. Guitars are strung with Dunlop .010-.046 strings tuned to E flat.

Amps have varied: the Two-Rock Eric Gales signature amp into Pure Sixty-Four 2x12 cabinets, and later a DV Mark Raw Dawg EG head into DV Mark vertical 2x12s. His pedalboard has included a Dunlop Cry Baby wah, a DigiTech Whammy, the MXR Jimi Hendrix Octavio fuzz, a signature E.W.S. Brute Drive and an MXR Raw Dawg overdrive.
